CLIFFORD JOHN MILLS My Uncle
Reg dist for birth South Stoneham came to Wales to live c1913 family went to Blaenavon first where Cliff enlisted and then while he was at war family came to Neath.
CLIFFORD JOHN MILLS died serving his country in the 1914 war. Medals recieved 1914 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal. Name listed on the Ploedsteert Memorial in Belgium.
On Panel 10. Born 7 Sep 1894 died 12 April 1918. His name is also on the memorial in Trevethin Church in Pontypool. He was in a battle where 600 were sent in to fight and only 150 survived.

I have Cliffs war records and to put "flesh" on hids bones relate on of the things that happened to him.
Cliff lost his boots and wore another soldiers he had a fortnight in Goal for this .My Grandmother had to send him a pair !! Family rembered him as a fun loving boy

Part of Williams, Memories of the Past about Neath Fair 1928
Side shows ranged from fat ladies to performing fleas. Foremost among these shows were those of the noble art of boxing with bill Samuels,Jack Skarrot and professor Callis inviting the youth of south Wales to test their boxing ability against his lads
Many battles were fought out silhouetted against a picturesque background sometimes depicting some noted fistic celebrities, sometimes a scene of Dai St John gracefully bayoneting a boer on Majuba Hill
On such nights when local lads went out to test their strength the names of Thomas Thomas Penygraig ( who became middle weight champion of England ) Jim Courtney, Alf Mansfield, Bobby Dobbs, Darkie Thomas, Llewellyn Morgan's, the " Coffee Cooler," and Jim Driscoll ( later to be called "Peerless," the world over for his amazing skills in the squared rings), and last but not least Jimmy Dean (the Iron Man)---- "Who defied all , in the words of Jack Skarrot. "to make his face flatter than it was " all these names to conjure with. They were magic names, holding any audience in breathless and eager silence.

Lots sold to Tenants under private negation realised £16550
At the auction at the Mart high street Cardiff on Thursday, the small holding,Draethen Mill,was sold to Tudor Morgan, Taffs well for £960; the small holding Ty`n y wauin , Machen to Charles and Gladys Barton, Ponthir for £680; Pasture land at Beddau Caerphilly ,to Plymouth Estates Ltd in three lots, for £710, £490 and £430 ; the farm Tynewydd at Pen yr heol Caerphilly, to Mr. John Davies, Cwm farm Bedwas, for £025; pasture land in that district to Mr. T. J. Coggins, Cardiff in two lots at £290 and £100 and a third lot to Mr. Edward Orchard Pen yr heol for £18; the farm Wytherw to Mr. F.g. Mathwin, Lisvane for £500;Maesllan lands and cottage Gellygaer to Mr. J. Lewis ,Gellygaer, for ££1250 and pasture land Glyn-Ddwy -Nant, Ynysybwl to Mr. T.W.Davies The Cefn Pontypridd for £160
The Farms Hendai (Gellygaer) Tir Adam Uchaff (Gellygaer) and Nantyffin Bedlinog) and two cottages ,Reservoir cottages, were withdrawn. The vendor`s solicitors were Messrs Rider, Heaton, Meredith ,and Mills London.
Messrs Stephenson and Alexander also announced the sale of the residence, Pengarth, cliff parade Penarth to Hatter Cardiff for £1700 . The vendors solicitors were Messrs L.G.Williams and Prichard, Charles Street Cardiff
